Crimson Desert
A Greymane-style copy.
It's been just shy of three months since the release of Crimson Desert, the open-world action RPG from Korean developer Pearl Abyss. Since becoming available for purchase, the title has consistently shattered sales records, and its creator has now revealed another sales achievement.
Crimson Desert has surpassed 6 million copies sold globally—a figure that reflects actual sales to consumers rather than mere shipments to stores. Pearl Abyss shared the news on X and other platforms, expressing gratitude to players for their backing.
The previous sales milestone was announced in late April, when Crimson Desert had reached 5 million copies sold. At that time, Pearl Abyss marked the occasion by granting its employees a bonus of 5 million KRW (~$3,400), with an additional bonus promised at the start of next year, contingent on this year's financial results.
Crimson Desert received a somewhat divided critical response at launch, yet players still flocked to it. Despite reviews criticizing its unfocused, MMO-like structure, lackluster story, and imprecise controls, that clearly hasn't deterred millions from continuing to purchase and engage with the game.
In response, Pearl Abyss has been consistently rolling out updates to enhance the experience. The developer appears receptive to addressing all feedback, recently announcing plans to revamp the game's narrative to "refine and improve the coherence of key scenes."
Although the frequency of patches has decreased, Crimson Desert still receives regular updates to tackle player concerns, incorporate requested features, resolve persistent issues, and more.
The most recent update arrived last week, introducing new minigames, including a pinball game, surprisingly. That same patch also adjusted the Re-Blockade feature, added fresh mounts and pets, and resolved numerous bugs.
