Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions
To infinity?
Fancy a bit of space travel? When I last caught up with Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions, essentially a spin-off of the original Astroneer, it had only just showcased its first gameplay footage. Somewhere along the line, I must have blinked, because now we’ve arrived at its early access launch day!
But what can you anticipate from this release? "What you’ll find on day one is the starting shape of the game," System Era Softworks explains. "What the launch on June 11, 2026 represents is the beginning of the conversation we have been wanting to have with you for a long, long time. The game will grow. It will adapt." In practical terms, this means you and a few friends can explore an alien planet (the first of several planned), complete missions, fend off creatures, gather resources, and head back to your space station before your oxygen runs out.
The early access release is already equipped with features like cross-platform and cross-progression, a substantial number of missions to tackle, and some story elements to uncover, so it doesn’t seem like you’ll get bored in five minutes (unless, of course, this isn’t your type of game—and if so, that’s on you, buddy). As for how long the developers estimate Starseeker will remain in early access, they’re currently projecting about one year, noting that they "want to work sustainably while leaving enough time to respond to player feedback."
There’s also a roadmap outlining various updates you can expect, though without any specific dates attached. The first update will focus on ocean gameplay and introduce a new region, the second will emphasize endgame threats, the third will add expedition modifiers like weather, extraction pressure, and endgame station rewards, and updates four and five will build on that with quality-of-life improvements and new events.
