Speeding toward solutions
After multiple reports of Forza Horizon 6 players losing their saves and being forced to restart from the beginning, developer Playground Games has begun deploying fixes. For PC users, they recommend verifying that the most recent version of Microsoft Gaming Services is active, since that app serves as the delivery method for PC-specific updates addressing the issue.
"An issue affecting some Forza Horizon 6 players, where game save progress may be lost or reset, is currently under investigation by our team," Playground's support team stated in a notice. They instructed impacted players to submit a ticket through the Forza Support website on the same day the save is lost, and to avoid playing the game or creating any new saves until the support team has reviewed the case.
For those playing on Windows PC via the Microsoft Store or Steam who have been lucky enough not to lose a garage full of customized Peel P60s, the recommended course of action is to confirm that your Microsoft Gaming Services app is running version 37.114.10001.0 or higher. To check this, navigate to system settings, then apps and installed apps. Scroll through the list for Gaming Services, click the ellipsis, and open advanced options. There, you'll find a lengthy version number matching the one mentioned earlier. If it's outdated, you'll need to initiate an update by opening the downloads section of the Microsoft Store, checking for updates, and starting the update process for Gaming Services.
Additionally, be sure to exit the game properly via the menu rather than leaving during a loading screen, for instance, and allow the game "at least a few minutes" to sync progress with the cloud after closing before shutting down your PC. Consider enforcing a mandatory five-minute period to sketch whatever hatchback you've just adorned with an anime girl-heavy livery, just to ensure the save mechanisms have sufficient time to function.
