The Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series are being treated as "key priorities".
A recent report indicates that Microsoft is contemplating "separating" Xbox to operate as its own independent entity.
These new assertions β reported by The Information and distributed via Windows Central β indicate that Microsoft "has not dismissed" the possibility of not just restructuring Xbox, but potentially transforming it into a "fully-owned subsidiary" or "establishing a joint venture with external collaborators".
Insiders report that Microsoft does not "have any immediate plans for reorganization", but acknowledged that "those possibilities are being considered" if it would help "turn Xbox into a more profitable venture".
The same report suggested that "Xbox will accelerate the development of new games from well-known franchises it owns", covering first-party brands such as Halo, Fallout, and The Elder Scrolls. The latter two are believed to be "specific focal points" for incoming CEO Asha Sharma, as she evaluates "increasing investment in premium games over the next fiscal year".
This marks the most recent addition to a genuinely confusing series of reports and conjecture, including claims that Xbox is reducing budgets and getting ready to dismiss a "substantial" number of employees, as part of Sharma's new business "overhaul" for the Xbox brand that involves keeping Gears of War: E-Day as a console exclusive to assist Xbox in regaining its primary fanbase .
It is anticipated that the initial reductions will happen in July, shortly after the end of the company's fiscal year. Based on Bloomberg sources, Xbox is also preparing significant reductions to marketing expenditures following Sharma's public remarks about the financial difficulties confronting Xbox, conceding that it was not in "a stable position".
