"Make some noise"

Vanillaware might not be a well-known name to everyone, but its catalog stands tall alongside the best in the industry. Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown, and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim are all titles whose biggest fans urge others to play them on platforms like Dwitter and Bluesky. The issue for us is that none of them are available on PC. Well, most of them, since just this week it was revealed that one of their earlier releases, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, will finally arrive on PC. And, as it appears, Vanillaware would like more of their games to be brought to PC… it's simply not their decision.

BitSummit founder and indie game festival organizer James Mielke took to Bluesky to share comments from Vanillaware founder George Kamitani regarding the studio's desire for additional PC ports. "Glad to see Muramasa coming to PC," Mielke wrote, adding, "I asked Vanillaware’s George Kamitani why he hasn’t put his other games on PC and he said he totally wants to, but it’s up to the publisher to finance the ports. So if you want 13 Sentinels, Dragon’s Crown, Unicorn Overlord, Odin Sphere etc. on PC, make some noise."

This sparked some confusion among certain people, since Atlus, the publisher of Unicorn Overlord, stated that their deal with Vanillaware only called for a console release. That led some to believe that Vanillaware didn't want their games on PC. One Bluesky user responded to Mielke about this, and Mielke clarified that "the reports were wrong" regarding Vanillaware opposing PC ports.

Whether any of those titles receive a PC port in the future now appears to hinge on enough people raising a bit of a ruckus to make it happen. Perhaps avoid tagging the relevant publishers on your social media with profanity, but a polite email could do the trick. I know I'd personally love to see 13 Sentinels' gorgeous artwork on my monitor, so get to it, folks.
