Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (2026)

Activision has confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 will allow players to access its single-player campaign up to one week before the full game's release. This means the Korean Peninsula-based story mode could be playable as early as 16th October for certain users—a full seven days ahead of the official launch on 23rd October.
This offer is available to anyone who pre-orders any edition of Modern Warfare 4 across all supported platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2 (despite that version not yet being available for pre-order).
However, this early access is only possible if you pre-order the game digitally, not through a physical retailer.
One of the most notable features introduced by the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot has been the early availability of the single-player campaign a week before the official release. This trend continued with Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and Modern Warfare 3 (2023), but, curiously, it did not reappear with any other titles released in between.
The early access initiative was initially viewed as a highly attractive pre-order incentive, and it has since been widely praised for addressing a couple of key issues. First, it allows the campaign to have its moment in the spotlight and dominate discussions about the game for an entire week. Second, and perhaps more importantly, it enables a greater number of Call of Duty players to experience—and potentially complete—the campaign. Historically, Call of Duty campaigns have had low completion rates; a quick glance at achievement statistics and unlock data reveals that millions of players skip the campaign entirely, preferring to jump straight into multiplayer.
The storyline of the Modern Warfare 4 campaign picks up after the events of Modern Warfare 3. However, the setting has changed. The game follows a South Korean soldier who is thrust into conflict when North Korea launches an invasion of its southern neighbor.
The campaign also brings back several remaining members of Task Force 141, including Captain Price and Ghost, whose loyalties and priorities may have evolved since we last encountered them.
Modern Warfare 4 launches on 23rd October for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2.
